Tim and Jean Carroll
Tim and Jean Carroll moved to Beverly/Morgan Park in December. They were no newcomers to the Beverly/Morgan Park experience. They both grew up here, and after a move out of town for work and a subsequent move to downtown Chicago, they moved back to the neighborhood they both knew and loved.
Tim said they both liked the “neighborhood feel,” and they couldn’t think of a better place to raise a family.
Family is obviously important to both the Carrolls, and they have extended family in Beverly/Morgan Park, which was another plus for their choosing this neighborhood.
As for neighborhood activities, Tim said they always look forward to the South Side Irish Parade, and are looking forward to watching Beverly Hills Cycling Classic, coming up July 11. As a former Ridge Run participant, Tim looks forward to running it again in the future.
Tim is a professor of bio-medical engineering at Northwestern University. A teacher and librarian, Jean is taking a career break while awaiting the birth of the couple’s first child, expected to arrive any day now.
Maura and John Sedlak
“The houses in Beverly are amazing,” Maura Sedlak said, describing her experience house hunting with her husband John last summer. “In every house we looked at I could find something I liked. But when we saw our house, it was exactly when we were looking for.”
Maura, John and their son John, now 2, moved into their house in November and are looking forward to spring when all the neighbors will be out. Taking roots in their house is important – for the Sedlaks, as with so many of our neighbors, home revolves around family, and they chose a house that’s big enough for a growing family as well as to welcome extended family for holidays and special family occasions.
Although her mother once lived in Beverly Hills/Morgan Park, Maura grew up in Southern Illinois. John grew up in the neighborhood. They met while attending college in Indiana, then married and moved into a condo on the north side (her idea).
When they started looking for a house, they wanted someplace permanent. “There are very good, nice people here,” Maura said. “People make lifelong friends, they have a connection forever. There is so much civic pride here. Everybody lives on the best block!”
That’s good, because the Sedlaks plan to live on their block for a long time.
